Diwali

During our meanderings in the morning, after dealing with mad tuk tuk drivers and motorcyclists, a good, proper cup of coffee.     The Whistling Teal not only serves Italian coffee in a fabulous garden, it is a haven from all the madness outside.

Diwali honours Lakshmi the goddess of wealth, the temple is just up the road.   Long ques formed, men one side, women the other, carrying garlands of marigolds and lotus flowers.
All were dressed in their best.   The ladies sparkled in the sunlight.

We notice some top notch policemen and soldiers.   Just being nosey (!) we enquired why?
The Maharana was coming to the temple to do puja, so coffee had to wait for ten minutes.

there was a quite informal guard either side of him as he progressed to the temple
being given garlands of marigold along the way

Keith took the photo, and at the top the shadowy figure wearing a hat is moi
standing at the entrance to The Whistling Teal

the evening certainly was a Festival of Lights
here a rangoli made outside Lake Pichola Hotel
isn't lovely?

and at some crazy time after midnight himself awoke and
took this view from our bedroom

we are now off to Gujarat for five days

out of contact until we return to Udaipur

Just want to say how much I am enjoying your blog, which I have only just discover. I am a wanderer and explorer, too...I began my travels after my hubby died a few years ago, to help me through it. I became hopelessly addicted and spend half the year travelling! I also discovered at 65 that I love painting, so this is my occupation for the other six months. I love keeping journals of all my travels. What I really want to say is that I now spend mist of my time in India, in Kerala. I went there and fell in love with the backwaters, found a farm with homestay by the lake, booked in for three months, and my life changed! I became very close to the family and return as a friend every year. I paint, explore and meet people like you, taking many photos. This year I also went up to Rajasthan, visiting Udaipur, Jodphur, jaipur and many other places. I love bird watching, so I visit many sanctuaries and reserves. Sorry to go on and on, but I just wanted to say hello. I have a blog, much neglected as I just don't have time for everything, but you have inspired me to go back to it tomorrow and do it seriously. I am happy to put a link to your blog on mi e if you would like this. Thanks for reading all this....Linda with pink hair
