Incommunicardo

Yes we are still here - haven't been spirited off to
distant hills. Lot of travelling, to get to the kooba hut.
No communications here, just one tiny light bulb.

Stops for refeshment at a Dhaba hut - nice chai

Fellow traveller

Arrived in Bhuj - town of crashing computers.
Found solution at last - albeit I have broken my
reading glasses and this screen is wobbley -
excuse typo's. Trip to the main man, font of
all knowledge on indigo dyeing yesterday. Now
to visit tribal villages to the north. Will blog
tonight, since this computer seems to be just fine!

Out and about

After two exhausting days of shopping,
Aly thinks it is Christmas, we took a
trip out to Kumbhalgrah, and amazing
Rajpur fort, and then to Rankapur,
a Jain temple with 1000 marble pillars,
all with different designs,  Think I might
have given that commission a miss.

Along the way we met this charming chap
offering camel rides  (no, we didn't) but just
look at his amazing turban

A cotton durry in the making - thread dyed with vegetable dyes.
In case you ask - it takes 20 days to make a durry 3ft x 5ft,
working ten hours a day.

Outside bicycle shed

Last day in Udaipur.  Tomorrow we set of to Ahmedabad
to visit Calico Museum of Textiles.  Yummy.
One to stay in a kooba hut in the middle of nowhere.

Busy doing nothing

but others are

A rest after a busy day

Going to market with decorated terracota water pots

It's the wedding season again
with no brakes

We here - Aly passed her first
test getting from the airport
to the hotel in Mumbai.

We headed out to Udaipur

on the early flight, arriving in
time for breakfast. Then we
hit the town. A little shopping
opportunity at the tailors,
followed by a general wander
to acclimatise. Usual mayhem

of rickshaws, cows, and elephants.
That's all for now. Time for
lunch, and recover from the
buying an Indian sim card
for mobile, and now getting to
grips with the internet cafe
- here's a word from Aly

My first evening in Udaipur with Tig. How perfect! Dinner on the rooftop of the hotel overlooking Lake Pichola, being entertained by a wonderful outdoor concert which was happening across the lake, delicious food, a balmy moonlit night ending with a fireworks display and this is just for starters..........! My first experience in India ....not bad!!!

Packing done, ready to go.
The February escape route is well timed.
It is grey, cold with falling sleet and snow.
Ah India..........and sunshine.

A good start to the month

This might seem a bit early to post my February Journal
Quilt (!)  On the other hand, I can tick this particular box.

Detail

Patterns
Following on from Pots, this little quilt comprises
hand dyed fabric and threads, plus printing.

If you are interested, intrigued or fancy making a
Journal Quilt, do have a look at Little Gem Quilts
(on my Links).    The Contemporary Quilt Group are
asking for donations of A4 Quilts to raise money
for the Quilt Museum and Gallery in York.
Everyone is invited to take part - you do not have
to be a member of the Quilters' Guild.
I will say no more - take a look.   Lots of information,
Gallery of 2007 Journal Quilts to look at and admire,
plus quilts already donated.
